A great way to connect
Hi, I’m Shona, a counsellor who cares deeply about people and creating a safe, welcoming space where you can pause, take a breath and reconnect - with yourself, your family and your communities.
Life can feel heavy, confusing or overwhelming at times.
You might be carrying worry, sadness, grief, old hurts, or patterns that no longer serve you. You don’t have to understand it all before you reach out. Whatever you are experiencing, I will meet you where you are, listen without judgement, and walk with you towards more safety, choice and connection.

All of us have experienced anxiety at some time in our life. We may feel it before a difficult conversation, during a life transition, or in the quiet moments when our minds begin to imagine what might go wrong. In small doses, it can even protect us. But when anxiety becomes constant, it can feel scary, making ordinary situations feel unsafe, exhausting or impossible to face. You may find yourself avoiding people, places or decisions, while the worry continues to grow in the background. Counselling offers a space to slow down, understand what your anxiety is trying to protect you from, and gradually rebuild a sense of safety, choice and confidence.

Depression can make life feel heavy in ways that are difficult to explain. It may dull joy, drain motivation, isolate you from others, or convince you that things will always feel this way. It is not a personal failing or a lack of willpower - it is often a response to pain, loss, exhaustion, trauma or circumstances that have become too much to carry alone. In counselling, there is room to be honest about how hard things have become without needing to explain yourself or “fix” everything at once. Together, we can gently explore what has happened, what you need, and the small, meaningful steps that can help you reconnect with yourself and your life.

Grief is not something we simply get over. Like the seasons, it changes and returns in different ways, bringing sadness, anger, guilt, numbness, longing, confusion and sometimes unexpected relief. It is a natural response to losing someone, something, or a future we had imagined, yet it can feel isolating when the world expects us to return to normal before we are ready. Inspired by the Seasons for Growth approach, I offer a compassionate space to explore how change and loss have affected your life, honour what matters, and find ways to adapt and grow. There is no right way to grieve and no timeline to follow – only your own path, at your own pace.

Addiction often begins as a way of coping with pain, stress, trauma, loneliness or feelings that have become too heavy to carry alone. Over time, what may once have brought relief can take up more space in life, leaving us feeling isolated, ashamed and as though things are slipping out of our control. It can affect relationships, health, confidence and our sense of who we are. Addiction is not a moral failure or a lack of willpower; it is a signal that something within you needs care, understanding and support. Counselling offers a safe, compassionate space to understand what is beneath the pattern, reconnect with yourself and others, and move towards recovery at your own pace.

Trauma is the body and mind’s response to something that felt overwhelming, frightening or unsafe. Sometimes, that response stays with us long after the event itself, living in the body as tension, exhaustion, restlessness or a sense of being constantly on alert. It may also show up as anxiety, numbness, difficulty trusting others, intrusive memories or reactions that feel bigger than the moment. You may not always know why something feels so overwhelming, but that does not mean your response is wrong. Your body and mind have been doing their best to protect you. Counselling offers a calm, respectful space to listen to what your body and emotions are telling you, make sense of your experience at your own pace, and gently rebuild safety, connection and choice.

Women’s mental health is shaped by many layers of experience: relationships, caregiving, work, identity, body changes, reproductive health, loss, trauma and the expectations placed on women across different stages of life. These experiences can be joyful, complicated and painful—often at the same time. You may be navigating pregnancy, motherhood, perimenopause, infertility, miscarriage, the loss of a child, or simply the pressure to keep everything together while feeling unseen. It is okay to need time for yourself. Prioritising your wellbeing is not selfish; it is an important part of being able to care for yourself and the people and life that matter to you. Counselling offers a space where your experience can be heard without judgement, where your needs matter, and where you can explore what support, healing and wellbeing look like for you.
